Maroondah United
Football Club

Respect Yourself.  Respect Others.  Respect the Game.

Please read each tab and ensure players understand and agree to be bound by the conditions before registering with MUFC

Players

MUFC players are expected to:

  1. Play fairly and follow the rules.

  2. Respect referees and match officials, accepting their decisions without argument, abuse, threats or deliberate provocation.

  3. Respect teammates and opponents, treating others as they would want to be treated.

  4. Manage their behaviour and language, avoiding swearing, blasphemy, and offensive, abusive or threatening words.

  5. Never bully, harass, discriminate, act violently or threaten others.

  6. Give their best effort, support teammates and show good sportsmanship, regardless of the result.

  7. Follow reasonable directions from coaches, team managers and Club officials.

  8. Respect Club, opposition and venue facilities, equipment and property.

  9. Represent MUFC appropriately, including on social media, messaging services and other digital platforms.

  10. Raise concerns appropriately with a coach, team manager or suitable Club representative rather than through confrontation.

Competitive football can involve strong emotions, but players must manage them appropriately. Emotion never excuses abusive, threatening, violent or unsportsmanlike behaviour.

Parents, Guardians and Spectators

Parents, guardians and spectators play an important role in creating a positive football environment.

They are expected to:

  1. Support players positively, focusing on participation, development, effort and enjoyment rather than winning.

  2. Encourage good sportsmanship and respect for teammates, opponents and officials.

  3. Never ridicule, humiliate, abuse or threaten a player over a mistake, performance or result.

  4. Respect referees and match officials, allowing them to perform their roles without interference, abuse or intimidation.

  5. Never publicly attack an official’s honesty, integrity or competence.

  6. Use the appropriate Club process to raise concerns rather than confronting coaches, officials, players or spectators at the venue.

  7. Respect coaches, team managers and volunteers, recognising the time and effort they contribute.

  8. Never bully, harass, discriminate, act violently, threaten others or use abusive language.

  9. Respect opposing players, families, coaches and supporters.

  10. Represent MUFC appropriately at opposition venues and on social media and other digital platforms.

Children and young people learn from adults’ behaviour. Parents, guardians and spectators should model the standards they expect players to follow.
